Countdown to renewing with the Lakers? Doncic officially announces his latest schedule: he will be in Los Angeles on August 4th.

On July 28th, Beijing time, Lakers star Doncic updated his social media, sharing his latest itinerary and captioning it: “New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, looking forward to seeing you all!”

Doncic's trip is for a Jordan Brand event; he will be in New York on July 30th (Beijing time, the same below), participate in an event in Chicago on August 2nd, and then come to Los Angeles on August 4th. Lakers reporter Dave McMenamin retweeted Doncic's schedule, stating that the Lakers are eligible to offer Doncic a contract extension worth over $220 million for up to four years this Saturday local time.

Previously, it was widely expected that Doncic would complete a contract extension with the Lakers and remain with the team long-term, especially since this summer he has actively recruited Ayton and Smart for the Lakers, demonstrating his determination to stay with the team.

According to reports from salary experts, Doncic will be eligible to sign a contract extension as early as August 3rd, with a maximum of a four-year deal worth $223 million. Of course, he could also opt for a short-term contract, which would allow him to qualify for a maximum salary worth 35% of the salary cap once he reaches ten years of NBA experience in the summer of 2028.

If he opts out of his player option in 2026 and signs a three-year contract extension worth $161 million with the Lakers, which includes a player option for the 2028-29 season, he would become a veteran with ten years of experience by the summer of 2028. At that time, he could sign a lucrative five-year contract worth approximately $406 million with the Lakers.

There have also been speculations from reporters that Doncic has a strong motivation to become an unrestricted free agent in 2028 rather than sign another contract. If he stays with the Lakers until then, he will have eight years of experience and will have played for the same team for four full years (including partial seasons like the 2024-25 season). This would allow him to include a trade veto in the new contract in 2028, preventing unexpected trades from happening again.
