The Clippers have signed a former Rockets player to a one-year contract! He once scored 53 points in the G League and is aiming for a two-way contract.

On July 27, Beijing time, renowned reporter Shams reported that the Los Angeles Clippers have reached a one-year contract agreement with free agent guard TyTy Washington. The Clippers are currently restricted by the hard salary cap at the first luxury tax line, making it impossible for them to sign free agents with a standard contract. Clippers reporter Murray followed up with reports indicating that Washington will receive an Exhibit 10 contract, which does not count against the team's salary cap. An Exhibit 10 contract is a non-guaranteed deal for training camp, but if the player is waived and spends at least 60 days with the team's G League affiliate, they are eligible for a bonus of $85,300.

At 23 years old, Washington was the 29th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, but as a rookie, he had limited playing time in 31 games with the Rockets. During the 2023 offseason, he was traded twice—first from Houston to Atlanta, and then to Oklahoma City—before being waived by the Thunder. Subsequently, he played his second season under a two-way contract with the Milwaukee Bucks and joined the Phoenix Suns for his third season on a two-way deal.

Since entering the league, Washington has played a total of 58 regular-season games, averaging 3.3 points, 1.2 assists, and 1.1 rebounds in 10.5 minutes per game, with a shooting percentage of 34.7%, a three-point shooting percentage of 23.4%, and a free throw percentage of 54.2%. His performance in the G League has been significantly better; last season, he played 32 games for the Valley Vipers, averaging 21.7 points and 7.4 assists, with a three-point shooting percentage of 41.4%. He also had a standout game in the G League, scoring 53 points with 10 rebounds and 4 assists.

As a three-year veteran entering his fourth NBA season, Washington is still eligible to sign a two-way contract. Therefore, if he performs well in training camp, he may secure one of the Clippers' two-way contract spots (which are currently full). Otherwise, he might become an affiliate player for the Clippers' G League team, the San Diego Clippers.
