On July 25, Beijing time, according to reports from 404 Media, LeBron's legal team has sent a cease and desist letter to an AI company, requiring them to stop creating AI "pregnancy" videos featuring LeBron as a prototype.
Furthermore, it has been reported that several Instagram accounts that circulated parody videos of LeBron and went viral have been shut down.
Currently, the development of artificial intelligence seems increasingly out of control, especially with AI-generated videos featuring athletes and other celebrities engaging in unbelievable actions, which are widely shared on social media. LeBron James, the superstar of the Los Angeles Lakers, is one of the athletes most frequently appearing in these viral AI videos.
404 Media also pointed out that this might be the first known case of a celebrity threatening legal action against an AI company for using their likeness to generate AI images without consent.
This is also one of the first cases of celebrities taking legal action against AI-generated content without consent (although not explicitly involving pornographic material), as such content is becoming increasingly common on Instagram and other social media platforms.
The soon-to-be 41-year-old LeBron has exercised his $52.6 million player option to continue playing for the Lakers. Last season, LeBron played 70 regular-season games for the Lakers, averaging 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists.
