On October 28, Beijing time, according to Marc Stein of the Athletic, the Rockets are paying close attention to Heat star Jimmy Butler. In addition to the Suns' Durant, this is another star in the Rockets' radar.
The Rockets reached early contract extensions with Jalen Green and Shin Kyung before the deadline. This could cost the Rockets salary space in the 2025 offseason. However, that didn't stop the team from dreaming of a star. The Rockets may not be ready to make action this season, but they're watching to see if there are stars available in the future.
As previously reported, Suns forward Kevin Durant is on the Rockets' radar. Another name to watch is Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat.
Butler and the Heat did not agree on a contract extension in the offseason. With a player option for next season, Butler qualifies as a free agent next summer. He can also choose the execution option and seek trades. In this case, the Rockets become a team to watch.
Rockets coach Udoka has been hoping to continue bringing in veterans to his team. Butler also grew up in the Houston area, which could make it attractive for him to return to his hometown later in his career.
When Butler is healthy, he's still great and can make a difference on both ends of the floor. Last season, Butler averaged 20.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. The problem, though, is that he's about to turn 35 and has missed at least 18 regular-season games in each of the past four seasons. So far this season, Butler has played in two games, averaging 14.5 points, 6 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game, shooting just 34.8% from the field and 20% from three-point range. It was previously reported that Butler himself was interested in joining the Nets.
