Although the 2025 Summer League provides rookies with their first taste of NBA competition, second-year players from the 2024 NBA Draft are also having their moment in the spotlight. On July 21, Beijing time, the NBA's official website highlighted five second-year players who excelled in the summer league—
Bronny, Los Angeles Lakers
After a good performance in the California Classic, Bronny maintained his excellent form in Las Vegas. The biggest change has been his confidence—he appears more composed when controlling the offense, and his three-point shooting remains impressive.
Despite the Lakers losing to the Clippers on July 15, Bronny was one of the few bright spots, delivering a well-rounded performance: 17 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 three-pointers. Additionally, in three summer league games, he averaged 16.3 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.6 rebounds, effectively involving his teammates in the offense and sparking scoring runs during the games.
Kōmura Yūki, Chicago Bulls
After a solid rookie season with the Grizzlies (playing in 22 games), this second-year player from Japan hopes to make an impact in the Bulls' lineup in Las Vegas.
His court vision and pass-first style have earned him consistent minutes off the bench. On July 19, in a game where he led the Bulls to a 105-92 victory over the Utah Jazz, Kōmura Yūki contributed 20 points and 10 assists, showcasing a variety of impressive passes and accurate three-point shooting.
After the summer league, the Bulls signed Kōmura Yūki to a two-way contract; throughout the week of games, he averaged 10.2 points, 6.2 assists, and 2.4 rebounds.
Hollands, Detroit Pistons
Hollands, the fifth overall pick in the 2024 draft, is preparing for a breakout season as the Pistons aim to advance further in the playoffs. He had a solid rookie season, playing in 81 games and averaging 6.4 points while showing defensive potential. In the three summer league games he participated in, he averaged 21.7 points with a three-point shooting percentage of 46.7%.
With rotation players like Schröder, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Fong Taijiao leaving the free agent market, Hollands is expected to fill this gap in his second season.
Sarr, Washington Wizards
Ranked third on the rookie leaderboard for the 2024-25 season, Sarr seized the opportunity in the summer league to continue his growth and showcase leadership. Averaging 1.5 blocks per game in his rookie season, he has consistently delivered impressive performances on the defensive end. Notably, on July 14, he set a new record for the summer league with 8 blocks in a single game, along with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Shannon, Minnesota Timberwolves
Terence Shannon Jr., the 24th pick in the 2024 draft, demonstrated why Timberwolves coach Finch trusted him with playoff minutes during his rookie season. Shannon emerged from the bench, providing much-needed energy. His active performance in the crucial third game became a turning point, laying the groundwork for his further development in the summer league.
In the Timberwolves' 94-83 victory over the Nuggets, Shannon delivered a comprehensive performance, scoring 24 points, including 5 three-pointers. He also scored over 20 points in three consecutive summer league games. With the Timberwolves maintaining continuity in their roster after back-to-back trips to the Western Conference Finals, Shannon is poised to earn regular playing time and add depth to the team's wing position.
