The Bucks may need a center, but Young's fit is questionable

It makes sense to select a center with the 47th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. With Brook Lopez, Bobby Portis and Jericho Sims all likely to enter the free agent market, Milwaukee will need plenty of depth at the center position. Yang can fill that role.

Yang can be a tall defensive threat in the paint. During his two years in the CBA, he used that advantage to average 2.4 blocks per game. The big man drew attention across the board at the NBA tryout, especially with 11 points, six rebounds, six assists and one block in the matchup, which perfectly showcased his impact. He can do almost anything.

On paper, Young could fill the defensive holes at the center position, but there are parts of his game that should cause concern for the Bucks.

Young is only 19 years old and has the potential to develop into a defender like Brook Lopez. With his size, he can guard the paint zone and shoot with ease. However, just like Lopez, scouts say Young could struggle with his defense away from the basket and he will be exploited when players drag him to the perimeter.

Bucks fans still remember Lopez's dropout in the first round of the 2025 playoffs. This happened because Lopez couldn't keep up with the young and athletic Pacers. Letting Lopez go seems likely, but replacing him with a big man with the same weakness is sure to cause some alarm.

Milwaukee needs youth, athleticism, mobility, agility, and everything else in the center position. Despite Young's undeniable defensive potential, he doesn't possess those attributes for his size, and these are not traits that are easy to acquire.
