How did the Lakers get Claxton? The name is listed as a 4-for-2 plan: Hachimura Kerneckert becomes a bargaining chip

Nets center Claxton has been a prime target for the Lakers to bolster inside. So, what kind of trade can the Lakers get him? On June 8, Beijing time, Jake Weinbach listed a 4-for-2 trade plan, and Hachimura and Kneckert both became chips.

Specifically, the Lakers send away Hachimura, Knecket, Kleber, a 2031 first-round pick (top-8 picks protected), Claxton to get the Nets, and this year's No. 27 pick (from the Rockets).

Previously, Bleacher Report also offered a 4-for-1 trade package to support the Lakers in acquiring Claxton. The Lakers sent Hachimura, Kleber, a 2031 first-round pick and a 2028 first-round swap to Claxton. Claxton's ability to pick up and defend in the air is seen as one of the options that would be a perfect fit for Doncic.

Evaluating the plan at the time, they said, "Adding a starter-caliber center to the Lakers is probably the most obvious move of the summer...... The Lakers have enough trade chips to take down a big man. The deal gives the Nets a salary-matching contract (including Hachimura's contract, which could be resold to a championship-contented team for more assets), a first-round pick swap and a first-round pick. That's a lot of value for a 26-year-old centre-forward – especially when he's struggling to perform at the same level as he was when he's out of a star-studded system. ”

With the Lakers, Claxton is expected to regain the pick-and-roll efficiency of the 2022-23 season. That season, he averaged 12.6 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game, shooting a league-leading 70.5 percent from the field and finishing in the top 10 in the Defensive Player of the Year poll. ”

If general manager Pelinka succeeds in bringing in Claxton, head coach Redick could field a starting combination of Doncic, Reaves, Finney-Smith, James and Claxton next season.

Claxton, 26, was the No. 31 pick in the 2019 draft, averaging 10.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 63.6 percent from the field. He has three years left on his contract, and his annual salary is 25.35 million, 23.14 million and 20.94 million respectively, decreasing year by year.
