In the first quarter, Jenkins hit a three-point shot, Shepard scored on a layup, Smith dunked, and the Pistons started the game 6-2. AJ Griffin, Robinson make baskets. Baker scored on a layup and Williams also dunked to tie the game. Shepard hit a mid-range shot and Robinson and Williams went on to score to give the Rockets a six-point lead. The Pistons made three free throws to close the gap. At the end of the first quarter, the Rockets led the Pistons 16-13. Whitmore was 0-of-3 in the first quarter and scored just one point from the free-throw line.

In the second quarter, Shepard scored on a layup and assisted on a dunk by Dent, and Whitmore assisted Robinson on a three-pointer, and the Rockets stretched the gap to 10 points.
