The fourth person in team history! Castle was named Rookie of the Year: Spurs player was elected for the second year in a row

On April 30, Beijing time, the NBA officially announced that Spurs player Castle was named this season's Rookie of the Year, beating Hawks champion Rissa Shee and Grizzlies rookie Jalen Wells. This is the second year in a row that a Spurs player has won the award. Last season, Wembanyama was unanimously voted Rookie of the Year.Castle received 92 first-place votes with a total of 482 points, followed by Risachet with 245 and Wells with 123.

Castle also became the fourth player in Spurs history to be named Rookie of the Year, along with David Robinson in 1989-90 and Duncan in 1997-98 before him and Wembanyama.

This is the second time in more than half a century that the same team has won the Rookie of the Year award two years in a row. Previously, the Timberwolves' Wiggins (now with the Heat) and Towns (now with the Knicks) won the award in 2015 and 2016, respectively. Going back even further, the last time a team achieved this feat was back in 1973 and 1974, when Bob McAdoo and Ernie DiGregorio of the Buffalo Braves lifted the Rookie of the Year trophy two years in a row.

This season, Castle played in 81 regular-season games for the Spurs, averaging 14.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game, ranking first among all rookies in points (1,190 points) and steals (74). Risachet finished the season strongly, winning the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month award in February and March. Wells started the most games of any rookie (74) and led all rookies in three-point shooting (138, the same as the Wizards' Carrington).

In an interview in early April, Castle was confident that he would be selected as Rookie of the Year. "I think as things stand, the award is basically solid, I'm just going to be myself as always and don't think about it when I play. But as the game progressed, I became more and more confident that I was the Rookie of the Year. ”

The Rookie of the Year award was voted on by 100 league journalists and commentators from around the globe, who voted for it shortly after the regular season ended.

Previously, a number of other awards have been announced: the Cavaliers' Mobley was named Defensive Player of the Year, the Knicks' Brunson was named Key Player of the Year, the Celtics' Prithard was named Sixth Man of the Year, the Warriors' Curry was named Teammate of the Year, and Dream Chase won the Best Fighting Award.
