On July 5, Beijing time, NBA center Mitchell Robinson updated his social media to share the true reason for his finger injury during the playoffs. His youngest brother had been in a car accident, leading to overwhelming self-reproach. He punched a pickup truck and broke his finger. Miro’s post reads as follows—

I want to address everyone's questions about my finger injury (the actual injury was to my knuckle). Let me first explain the background: Lately, I’ve been troubled by personal matters, emotional conflicts, and internal struggles, all of which have affected my performance on the court. In the league, I have always followed the team's arrangements, and many of you have seen plenty of videos showing what I’m capable of on the court.
Back to the Eastern Conference Finals. After we defeated the Cavaliers on the road, everything seemed to be going smoothly. The whole team was celebrating the victory, but for me, life took a sharp turn. Many people know that I am sensitive and don’t like to share my private matters. I usually enjoy listening to country music quietly. I won’t go into details about my upbringing, but I am extremely protective of my younger siblings. I truly love them from the bottom of my heart.

After returning to New York, an unexpected phone call shattered the calm. My family told me that my youngest brother had been in a car accident. I didn’t get home until late at night and saw a pile of unread messages. As the eldest son in the family, I was filled with anxiety and instantly panicked. I kept calling back and sending texts. When I video-called my brother, I thought he was gone—he was wearing a neck brace, completely unresponsive and silent. I broke down in tears, overwhelmed with guilt, feeling like I had failed to protect my siblings.
I was over 910 miles away, completely helpless. A huge wave of frustration hit me, and I punched my pickup truck. Many people know how much I cherish my trucks, but my siblings and my daughter will always be my top priority.
Before judging someone casually, you must understand the unseen struggles they are facing. Life is full of uncertainties, and how one chooses to face adversity truly defines a person.
After consulting with doctors to confirm my injury, I adjusted my mindset, stepped onto the court, and fulfilled my mission. In the end, we won the 2026 NBA championship.
At the end of the day, I endured countless hardships this season and even made huge sacrifices: in order to focus on training and give my all to the games, I spent very little time with my daughter, hoping only that she would have a better life than mine in the future.

During the 2025-26 season, Mitchell Robinson played in 60 regular-season games, averaging 5.7 points and 8.8 rebounds with a shooting percentage of 72.3%. He went on to win a championship with the Knicks in the playoffs. This offseason, he signed a three-year, $47.4 million contract with the Celtics, leaving the Knicks.
