It's over! The 4-time championship coach! Du Feng reportedly leaves the Guangdong team.

WOW~

A rather quiet and dignified way to part ways.

Well-known domestic basketball commentator Su Qun revealed:Because Du Feng is now fully focused on the CBA, he has resigned from his position as the head coach of the Guangdong team.

Du Feng has been the head coach for Guangdong since 2013, winning the CBA championship in his first season; he then led the team to three consecutive titles from 2019 to 2021.

This soon-to-be 46-year-old celebrated coach has won four championships in his coaching career so far and has been named Coach of the Season three times.

In recent years, due to the Guangdong team's failure to win another championship and criticism of Du Feng's coaching style, especially his attitude towards players, his reputation online has become far less favorable. Moving to a different league now, whether to refine his skills or just for a change, gives him a chance to step away from the media storm and catch his breath.

Barring any surprises, the head coach for Guangdong next season should be a foreigner. Before the news of Du Feng's resignation came out, the club had already posted recruitment notices, including a position for a team translator.

With Du Feng leaving and a foreign coach taking over, it suggests that the Guangdong team's tactical system might see major changes next season. For example, could they increase the role of the wing players? If so, former Nets two-way player Cui Yongxi could officially become a core member of the team.

Last summer, Cui Yongxi was traded from the Guangzhou team to the Guangdong team, but he seemingly failed to earn Du Feng's trust, mostly playing a supporting role as a corner specialist. Last regular season, he played in 15 games, all off the bench, averaging 17.3 minutes, 7.4 points, and 2.9 rebounds, with shooting percentages of 39.8%, 34.6%, and 76% from the field, three-point range, and free-throw line respectively. In this year's playoffs, he played in 6 games, all as a substitute, averaging 15 minutes, 2.8 points, and 2.3 rebounds, with shooting percentages of 33.3% and 20%.

Cui Yongxi, born on May 28, 2003, is a swingman standing 1.99m tall with a 2.07m wingspan. At just 23 years old, he represents the future of the Guangdong team and has nearly fully recovered from a severe left knee ACL tear.

All good things must come to an end. The conclusion of one era marks the beginning of another.
