Insider leaks! Wembanyama to be NBA 2K27 cover star: International players featured for second straight year

On June 3, Beijing time, as the 2026 NBA Finals draw near, the gaming community got big news: crucial intelligence about the hit basketball title NBA 2K27 has been leaked. An insider posted a screenshot that seemingly reveals the cover star—San Antonio Spurs cornerstone Victor Wembanyama. The screenshot is from the official 2K website, originally scheduled for a public announcement on June 9 local time; the leak also disclosed that the global release date is set for September 4.

Currently, the official 2K website and social media accounts have not confirmed this news, but it is reported that the insider is deeply embedded in the 2K information community, lending considerable credibility to the leak.

The leak quickly went viral, with most fans expressing excitement about Wembanyama gracing the cover. This season, Wembanyama had an explosive regular-season performance, becoming the first player in NBA history to be unanimously voted Defensive Player of the Year.

If the leak is accurate, this would mark the second consecutive year the 2K series has chosen a non-American player for the cover. The previous installment, NBA 2K26, featured Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Earlier, NBA 2K22 had Luka Dončić, then with the Mavericks and now with the Lakers, on its cover.

Wembanyama has already developed into one of the league's most efficient scorers. In his first playoff run, he averaged 23.2 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 3.5 blocks per game, shooting 51% from the field.

In the Western Conference Finals against the Thunder, Wembanyama elevated his dominance even further, carrying the team to a Game 7 victory. Across the seven-game series, he averaged 27.3 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2.7 blocks, earning unanimous Western Conference Finals MVP honors.

In the decisive Game 7, he once again delivered a steady performance, recording 22 points and 7 rebounds, leading the team to eliminate the Thunder and guide the Spurs into the NBA Finals.
