WOW! Yi Jianlian makes a public appearance! We've waited a full two years.

Long time no see, the big brother has come out to send New Year greetings through the Xinhhuo Camp official blog.

If I remember correctly, this is Yi Jianlian’s first voluntary public appearance online since the "shocking scandal" in October 2024. Perhaps this could be a positive sign that he is about to make a comeback after two years.

In fact, Yi Jianlian was close to returning quite some time ago. Last year, CCTV’s basketball program "Basketball Park" planned to feature him in the CBA’s 30-year series "Youth 30 Years," but the interview was ultimately cancelled for some reason.

Born on October 27, 1987, Yi Jianlian stands 2.12 meters tall with a 2.24-meter wingspan, possessing top-tier physical talent among Asians. He was the 6th overall pick in the NBA first round, played 272 regular-season games with 163 starts, averaging 22.2 minutes, 7.9 points, and 4.9 rebounds per game, with shooting percentages of 40.4%, 33.3%, and 78%. He was once named Rookie of the Month.

Although his NBA career was somewhat modest, Yi Jianlian’s CBA career was brilliant, spending it all with Guangdong team and creating a one-man, one-city fairy tale. He won 7 championships, 3 Finals MVPs, 5 MVPs, and 1 Defensive Player of the Year award. As for his national team career, he competed in 4 Olympic Games and led the team to multiple Asian championships.

Yi Jianlian began his professional career in 2002 and announced his retirement in 2023. Over 21 years, he achieved many admirable accomplishments, making him a legendary figure in Chinese basketball history. Unfortunately, after retiring, his reputation suffered, forcing him into obscurity; otherwise, he would still be a top star today.

It’s worth mentioning that before the 2024 scandal, Yi Jianlian even crossed over to participate in a popular variety show, which was well received and seemed to be gaining wide attention. However, everything he had was destroyed by the scandal.

Honestly, no one knows when Yi Jianlian will truly return to the public eye or if he can regain everything he once had. All we can do is wish him peace, happiness, and good health. No matter what, life must go on.
