34+16+8! Insane, Yuki Kawamura is on fire!

Absolutely outstanding, you have to respect that.

Recently, Yuki Kawamura participated in the G League, starting and playing 40 minutes, shooting 12 of 24 shots, including 3 of 6 from beyond the arc, and hitting all 4 free throws to score a career-high 34 points along with 16 assists and 8 rebounds (season high).Sadly, his Windy City Bulls fell just short, losing 131-135 to the Grand Rapids Gold.

It’s important to note that the G League free throw rules differ from the NBA’s main league: during the first 46 minutes of the game, any foul resulting in 1, 2, or 3 free throws will only award a single free throw, and the points scored count as 1, 2, or 3 accordingly.

A small Asian guard officially listed at only 1.70 meters tall and weighing 72 kilograms managed to put up a near triple-double of 34+16+8 in the G League, something unimaginable in the past.

Moreover, Kawamura isn’t just having a lucky game; in the previous match where the Windy City Bulls defeated the Long Island Nets 133-127, he scored 25 points with 13 assists on 5 of 16 shooting, recording a double-double.

In the NBA regular season, although Kawamura’s scoring isn’t as spectacular as in the G League, his playmaking and rebounding remain solid. So far this season, he has appeared in four games for the Bulls, averaging 19 minutes per game, contributing 5 points, 4 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.3 steals, with shooting percentages of 29.4%, 30.8%, and a perfect 100% from the free-throw line. This guy is truly the top Asian point guard today.

What’s most surprising is Kawamura’s average of 4 rebounds per game, which makes many taller players feel embarrassed...

Born on May 2, 2001, Yuki Kawamura entered the NBA as an undrafted player. Last season, he signed a two-way contract with the Grizzlies; during this summer’s offseason, he played for the Bulls in the Summer League, averaging 10.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 2.2 steals, earning another two-way contract. Although he was waived after being diagnosed with a blood clot in his right calf, he recovered and signed a new two-way contract to return to Chicago.

If Kawamura were 1.80 meters tall, he would definitely have a shot at a standard NBA contract, but unfortunately, there are no “ifs.” His significant height disadvantage likely confines him to only securing two-way contracts in the NBA.
