On February 4th Beijing time, league sources told ESPN that the Golden State Warriors have formally put Green on the market before the trade deadline, involving him in active negotiations, casting doubt on his 14-year career with the team.

League insiders added that Warriors GM Donnie Walsh and majority owner Lacob are determined to facilitate a deal involving Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Green’s name is prominently included in the potential offer to the Milwaukee Bucks. To match salaries, the Warriors must include either injured wing Butler, with a $56.8 million salary next season, or Green, who has a $27.6 million contract. Compared to Butler, Green’s lower salary makes him easier to trade, and since he is currently healthy and can contribute to a championship contender, he holds greater appeal to the Bucks and other teams during deadline negotiations.

When asked about his future on Friday night, Green said, “I’ve been here for 14 years. I have no reason to sit here worrying about leaving. But if I get traded, it’s part of the business. Still, I haven’t lost any sleep over it—I slept very well last night.”
Warriors head coach Kerr and star guard Curry have consistently expressed their hope that Green retires wearing a Warriors jersey. However, the final decision lies with Lacob and Donnie Walsh, and as they attempt to reshape the team’s future roster, Green is now more available on the trading block than ever before.
On his weekly radio show, Kerr said, “I think the toughest thing for Green is that the Warriors are the only team he has ever played for. Someday, he will have a statue outside the arena dedicated to him… He has never faced a situation like this, and it’s clearly weighing on him.”

Fans have already posted images joking that this is what Green’s future statue might look like (see picture above).
