Terrible performance! Guangdong made only 5 of 35 three-pointers, Shanghai crushed Guangdong with a 40-point lead.

On January 15th, during the CBA regular season, Shanghai defeated Guangdong 113-73 on the road, halting Guangdong’s streak of three consecutive wins.

Guangdong’s Sumner scored 23 points, Hu Mingxuan added 12 points and 5 rebounds, Xu Jie put up 10 points and 7 rebounds; Shanghai’s Lofton led with 26 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists, Zhang Zhenlin scored 22 points, Goodwin contributed 16 points and 7 assists, Whiteside recorded 12 points, 18 rebounds, and 3 blocks, and Liu Zheng had 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals.

In the first quarter, Shanghai aggressively attacked the paint, while Zhang Zhenlin also fired from beyond the arc, giving Shanghai a dream start with a 9-0 run. Quinn managed a layup to finally break Guangdong’s scoring drought. Zhang Zhenlin hit another three-pointer, and with continuous pressure from Whiteside, Goodwin, Li Hongquan, and Zhang Zhenlin, Guangdong struggled to defend. Li Hongquan also nailed a three, and Shanghai finished the quarter strong, leading 29-11.

In the second quarter, Lofton was in excellent form, hitting 5 of 6 shots and scoring 14 points, becoming Shanghai’s main scorer; Goodwin caught fire from outside, making two three-pointers. Zhang Zhenlin’s inside attacks were effective, and Shanghai showed strength both inside and out, extending their lead to as much as 60-30, a 30-point advantage. By halftime, Shanghai was ahead 60-34.

During the third quarter, Zhang Zhenlin and Li Hongquan each hit three-pointers, and Whiteside scored with a mid-range shot. Shanghai went on a 10-1 run, extending the lead to 70-35, a 35-point gap. Zhang Zhenlin kept dominating the basket, helping Shanghai maintain their advantage and leaving the opponent helpless. The quarter ended with Shanghai leading 89-53.

In the final quarter, Liu Lijia and Liu Zheng hit consecutive three-pointers, pushing Shanghai’s lead to 97-55, a 42-point margin. The remainder of the game turned into garbage time, with Shanghai comfortably holding their lead and securing the win as expected.
