Almost overturned! Wells scores 26 points, Fu Hao posts 16+10, four players in double figures as Liaoning narrowly defeats Ningbo at home

At 19:35 on December 20th, during the fourth round of the 2025/2026 CBA regular season, Liaoning narrowly defeated Ningbo 90-88 at home.

In the first quarter, Wang Lanqin nailed a deep three-pointer from the top of the key to put Liaoning ahead first, Luo Kaiwen answered with a corner three to even the score. After Simpson made both free throws to help Ningbo take the lead, Liaoning struggled with consecutive missed shots. In the second quarter, Wells extended the lead to 10 points with a finger roll layup, but Ningbo repeatedly launched fast breaks. Led by Ma Ning, Ningbo closed the gap to 25-29, prompting Liaoning to call a timeout. After the break, Jackson and Yu Changdong each added two points, and Ningbo went on a 12-4 run to tie the game at 29-all. Yan Shouqi’s three-pointer stopped the bleeding, Fu Hao scored on an uncontested layup, stabilizing Liaoning and widening the gap again. After Yu Changdong’s three-pointer, Wells and Fu Hao went to the free-throw line consecutively; Wells also made a steal and a flying dunk, helping Liaoning increase their lead. Simpson and Fall, Ningbo’s two foreign players, helped narrow the margin, with Fall performing an alley-oop dunk. At a critical moment, Wells hit a clutch three-pointer to suppress Ningbo’s momentum. Yan Shouqi’s another three-pointer ended the half with Liaoning leading 47-42.

In the third quarter, Morland and Wang Lanqin scored both inside and outside, sparking a 6-0 run that stretched Liaoning’s lead to 11 points, forcing Ningbo to call a timeout. After the break, Luo Kaiwen hit a three-pointer, Martin responded with an alley-oop dunk, and Ningbo answered with a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 49-55. Wells, Jiang Yuxing, and Fu Hao took turns attacking the basket, sparking a scoring run that pushed the lead back to 11. Thereafter, Liaoning dominated fully; Fu Hao went repeatedly to the free-throw line, Morland drove for a layup, extending Liaoning’s lead to 70-55. After Jackson posterized Brown, Liaoning ended the third quarter leading 70-58.

In the fourth quarter, Wang Zirui started with a three-pointer, and Morland and Wang Lanqin combined to help Liaoning regain a double-digit lead. Wang Zirui and Yan Shouqi exchanged threes, while Yu Changdong and Simpson scored inside and outside, helping Ningbo come back to 71-79 and forcing Liaoning to call a timeout. After the break, Ningbo kept closing the gap; Simpson made a layup, cutting the deficit to six points. Liaoning’s fast-break offense stalled, but Wells and Wang Lanqin scored from the free-throw line. After Ning Hongyu’s put-back basket, Ningbo trailed 82-86 by four points. With 51 seconds left, Zhang Chenzhifeng fouled out with five personal fouls, and Liaoning called a timeout. After the break, Ning Hongyu made both free throws, cutting the gap to two points. On the next possession, Wells drew a foul and converted both free throws, putting Liaoning ahead 88-84, prompting Ningbo to call a timeout. After the break, Simpson scored a layup, forcing Liaoning to call a timeout with only 6.6 seconds left. Wells was fouled right after receiving the ball and made both free throws. In the final moments, Lutubra scored, and Liaoning ultimately won 90-88 over Ningbo.
