The so-called star-studded roster truly only works for offseason championship hopes.

If things keep going this way, Tyronn Lue’s position as head coach is at serious risk.

According to stats, this season the Clippers average 109.7 points per game (28th in the league), allow 115 points per game (10th), hold an offensive efficiency of 113.6 (21st), and defensive efficiency of 119.0 (27th)... Such mediocre performance explains why they’re getting blown out badly.

Especially the highly anticipated Beal, who seems to be a lost cause; so far he has started all six games,averaging 20.2 minutes on the court, scoring only 8.2 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 1.7 assists, with shooting percentages of 37.5%, 36.8%, and 75% respectively.The guy who used to average over 30 points per game for two consecutive seasons with the Wizards has dramatically declined since joining the Clippers this season.

However, Beal’s average annual salary with the Clippers is only $5.5 million, so it’s unfair to put all the blame on him.

By the way, the Clippers’ starting shooting guard last season is now thriving with the Heat, living the good life and firmly established as a core player,playing 29.9 minutes per game, contributing 23.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.4 steals, shooting 46.7% from the field, and hitting 2.6 three-pointers per game at a 46.2% clip.He’s having a breakout contract year this season.

This summer, to clear space for Beal and strengthen the power forward position, the Clippers didn’t hesitate to send Powell to the Heat in a three-team trade, acquiring Collins from the Jazz (who averages 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal per game so far this season).

Powell was quite upset about the sudden trade; in a recent interview, he openly criticized the Clippers, saying their promises of valuing him were all empty words, and “complained” that playing alongside stars like Harden and Leonard makes it easy to be overlooked, no matter how well he performs.

In the business-driven league, interests come first, and promises often mean very little.

So the NBA rarely sees truly amicable separations; most times, it’s just that neither side wants to burn bridges.
