On November 9th Beijing time, Nuggets star Jokic boasts a distinctive blend of skills and a very high basketball intelligence, which sets him apart from top NBA players. Additionally, some people might observe Jokic’s especially composed nature.

Unlike other stars, Jokic has never broken down under pressure or during critical moments in games. Players who reach similar levels often need time and effort to develop this mindset, but Jokic has naturally possessed this calmness since childhood.
The three-time MVP said that he was born this way and will remain so for life. Jokic also mentioned that this is why he has never felt any pressure playing in the NBA.
“Pressure is only bad for you,” said the Nuggets All-Star center. “You just have to go out there — honestly, every NBA game feels like street ball back home to me. You have to play with that mindset, no pressure. Sure, you have to do what needs to be done, but in the end, it’s just a game.”

“My dad isn’t really a laid-back person,” Jokic explained by comparison. “He tends to get nervous and wants to do everything perfectly. But I’m the complete opposite — I’m very calm... now my calmness is almost driving him crazy, like nothing really affects me.”
During Jokic’s childhood, NBA games were not broadcasted regularly in Serbia. Thanks to video websites, young Jokic was able to watch highlights of many NBA stars. Among his longtime idols was Tim Duncan, a fellow big man and multiple-time MVP.
Jokic openly admires Duncan and still remembers the excitement of seeing the “Big Fundamental” for the first time in his rookie season. Yet even at a young age, Jokic knew not to be dazzled by his idol’s aura.

It is this innate composure that allowed Jokic to focus purely on the game itself. As a rookie, he performed well against Duncan, scoring 23 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, although the Nuggets eventually lost to the Spurs that night.
“I mean, I really like Tim Duncan, and playing against him was a big deal for me,” Jokic admitted. “But when you step on the court, if you keep thinking about what he’s achieved, how great he is, or what he wants, you won’t play well. You can’t be focused on him; you just have to focus on yourself and play your normal game.”
Over time, people have realized that nothing seems to pressure Jokic, especially on the court. Regardless of how important the game is, Jokic always maintains a serene attitude, earning him a unique kind of respect and recognition in the NBA.
For Jokic, basketball is simply a game, even at the NBA level. Some may not agree with this Serbian star’s mindset, but there is no doubt that this attitude has helped him become one of the greatest players of his generation.
