53 out of 14! The Ice-Cold Champion Shooter! Reports say the Mavericks are planning to trade Thompson

Alas.

Insider Siegel reports, the Mavericks will look into possible returns for trading Thompson before the deadline, which is no secret...

Surprising? Definitely not.

Thompson’s performance this season has been so poor that it’s almost unbearable to watch; he’s played just 20 minutes per game, scoring only 7.6 points, grabbing 2.9 rebounds, and dishing out 1.9 assists, with a shooting accuracy of merely 31.6%.

As for his signature three-point shooting, his accuracy stands at 26.4%, making 14 out of 53 attempts.

Once known as the NBA’s most explosive three-point marksman, Thompson has now turned into an ice-cold shooter. His salary this season is $16.67 million, with a contract salary of $17.46 million for the 26-27 season.

Since he’s not delivering the expected value and seems to be holding the team back, it’s only natural for him to be let go. Besides, the Mavericks never had a deep bond with Thompson; everything is about business interests first.

In the summer of 2024, Thompson declined the Warriors’ two-year, $50 million extension offer, averaging $25 million per year, and instead signed a three-year, $50 million deal with the Mavericks, averaging about $16.67 million annually. He aimed to prove he could still win a championship away from his old team. Unfortunately, dreams are beautiful but reality is harsh; since leaving Golden State, his career has been on a steep decline.

Thompson spent 13 seasons with the Warriors, winning four championships, marking the most glorious chapter of his career. The Warriors treated him with utmost respect; even after he tore his left ACL in June 2019, the team offered him a five-year, $190 million max contract extension the following July.

However, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, since everyone has their own path. But one wonders if Thompson, currently struggling deeply with the Mavericks, regrets leaving the Warriors. Had he stayed, he would have at least experienced a fairy-tale story with one team and enjoyed the respect due to a championship veteran.

Compared to the ambitious Thompson, the savvy Draymond Green is truly smart—holding tightly to Curry’s side. Despite outside criticism, such people often end up with the best outcomes.
