Winning a championship through offense? Draymond responds to Durant: Without valuing defense, you simply can’t win a title.

On November 5th Beijing time, Draymond Green addressed Kevin Durant’s recent comments during an interview with reporter Amick. Durant had recently claimed that offense plays a bigger role in winning championships.

Draymond stated, “In my opinion, every championship team possesses top-tier defense. Those teams stuck at a plateau usually fail because they cannot execute key defensive possessions. This fact has never changed, and I think anyone who doesn’t believe this won’t win games. It’s simple: those who don’t value defense can’t win titles.”

“Honestly, his (Durant’s) words were a bit confusing at first, I was like ‘huh?’ But then again, not so confusing since I know Kevin… I didn’t see the full context and understand the quotes could be taken out of context, but I saw what he said,” Draymond added.

If Durant truly believes defense is less important than offense, it might explain the Phoenix Suns’ poor defensive performance last season, which ultimately cost them a playoff spot.

As Draymond pointed out, nearly every NBA championship team in modern history has had at least solid defense, many boasting elite defensive units, including last season’s Thunder, who were considered a historically strong defensive team.

This season, if the Warriors want to achieve their ultimate goal, they must improve their defense and cannot continue the poor performances seen in the last two games.
