Horford's style of play is like the missing puzzle piece the Warriors have been searching for over the years, and now they've finally found it. Since Horford's signing was officially announced earlier this week, Kerr has been full of praise for how well he fits in. After watching Horford's preseason debut against the Lakers, the reasons behind his compatibility became clear at once.

The 39-year-old big man logged 14 minutes, contributing 3 points, 3 blocks, 4 rebounds, and 1 steal, quickly proving why the team is confident he can fill many gaps in their lineup. The Warriors ultimately defeated the Lakers 111-103.
When asked how it felt to watch Horford play against other teams for years and now finally see him suit up for the Warriors, Kerr smiled. Horford’s performance was one of the reasons for that reaction.
“I’m really happy,” Kerr said, “to see his height advantage, shooting ability, passing skills, and his control over the game's tempo. He's truly an excellent addition. We can pair him with any player. In the last four minutes of the second quarter, we put him on the floor with Poole and went on a big scoring run. So, he can fit into any lineup and make any lineup better. We’re very fortunate to have him.”

Horford’s calm veteran presence naturally fits any team, but his ability to strengthen this Warriors squad has already become evident. The Warriors players are also pleased, knowing this clear chemistry will only deepen over time.
“Obviously, he’s a high-IQ, experienced player with championship caliber,” said Warriors star guard Curry. “He really fits into any lineup. He can space the floor on offense and make his presence felt on defense. You saw that pass he gave me in the corner during that pick-and-roll — there’s an unspoken chemistry between us, and it will continue to grow. As a center, he’s very well-rounded. I’m excited to play with him alongside me, Jimmy (Butler), JK (Kuminga), or Draymond (Green). As long as he’s at the five, he can lead the whole team regardless of the lineup.”
Warriors reporters noted that when media were allowed into the locker room, Horford had already left, but during his brief time in the Bay Area, teammates had already felt his impact and demeanor. What makes Kerr so optimistic about the future is not just Horford’s obvious talent even late in his NBA career — as Curry explained, Horford makes any lineup stronger wherever he goes.

Kerr praised Horford’s defensive intelligence and mentioned that in the new season, Horford will spend a lot of time on the floor alongside Butler and Green. Kerr also paired Horford with Poole before halftime, giving the Warriors a unique tactical option — deploying two big men who can shoot when needed. Horford’s extensive basketball experience, gained through intuition, subtly influences the entire team.
“He always shows up in the right spots,” Kerr said. “As a veteran who’s been through the league for years and seen every situation, the game comes naturally to him.”
Before the game, Kerr said he had talked with Horford a few days ago, and the veteran shared the playing time approach that worked for him in Boston — including sitting out back-to-back games and selectively missing games based on his physical condition or schedule. Kerr said the Warriors will follow this plan and do everything possible to keep Horford healthy for the most crucial moments.
“We have to protect all our veterans appropriately,” Kerr said before the game. “We’ll do everything we can to have them ready for the playoffs. That’s our approach. Without a doubt, he still maintains excellent form, remains a very capable player, and fits us perfectly. It’s really exciting to see him join our team.”
