On October 3rd Beijing time, the Trail Blazers training camp reached day three. Head coach Bilups and player Grant spoke about Yang Hansen’s performance in interviews after training.

When asked about Yang Hansen’s adjustment, Bilups stated, “It’s roughly as I anticipated. He feels comfortable on the court, his offense is keeping pace, but defensively he’s a bit behind — like in rebounding and boxing out. To be fair, he didn’t have to fight hard for rebounds before; given his height and skills, rebounds would come to him. But the NBA is completely different with a faster pace, so he needs time to adapt. Still, as a rookie, his current performance is very good, and I’m pleased.”
Asked how Yang Hansen improves privately, Bilups said, “He watches game footage before and after training, and he puts in a lot of effort. He’s also learning English and progressing quickly. We have a tailored development plan for him, with intensive basketball training — he watches videos and practices specific skills daily. It’s like he’s taking ‘crash courses’ with a high workload.” Bilups added that a translator accompanies Hansen during video sessions.

Grant was also asked about Yang Hansen’s performance. He replied, “He’s doing really well and adapting very fast. He’s already grasped many tactical plays and positioning requirements, showing clear improvement.” Regarding language barriers, Grant said, “That’s definitely an issue. He doesn’t speak English, so communication is somewhat difficult, but he’s very smart, quick to understand, and learns rapidly. We always find ways to solve it.”
A reporter asked Grant about Hansen’s fashion sense and whether he has his own style. Grant responded, “I haven’t really paid attention to what he wears; I think he’s still exploring. But I’ll help him and guide him more in the future.”

Since Grant’s dressing is well regarded within the team, a reporter joked, “Are you going to be his ‘fashion coach’?” Grant said, “Yes, I’ll work with him and teach him gradually. He definitely has personality. We’re still getting to know each other, trying to overcome the language barrier and find a rhythm. But he’s really interesting, and you can tell he’s very sharp.”
