On October 2nd, at the Mavericks' training camp, Davis was noticeably bulkier. American media reported that compared to the same time last season, Davis's weight increased by 15 pounds (approximately 13.6 jin).

Regarding his weight, the 32-year-old Davis is unconcerned. “I feel really good. Actually, this is how I usually start every season because I gain quite a bit of weight over the summer. By November, I typically maintain between 255 pounds (around 115.7 kg) and 258 pounds (about 117 kg). I never want to begin a new season at my playing weight because then my weight drops during the season, and I end up too light.”
Davis also said, “I lose weight quickly, usually dropping 10 to 12 pounds (about 9 to 10.8 jin). During training camp, I've already lost 5 pounds (around 4.6 jin) from running, jumping, and physical drills. So, I’m not worried about my weight at all. I feel fantastic now, very agile, and my body is in great shape.”
However, Davis has a history of serious injuries, and many believe he must work extra hard to keep his body in top condition; otherwise, he might miss games during the season. Gaining weight could make Davis heavier and stronger but may also put additional strain on his legs. At least most fans are convinced this will bring bad news.

One fan wrote, “Maybe gaining weight in Dallas isn't Doncic's fault. Compared to Los Angeles, Texas just has better food.”
Other fans urged patience with Davis, reminding critics that the star big man recently had eye surgery this summer. One fan commented, “Don’t be like that. He had eye surgery this summer and had to rest face down for weeks, unable to train. He only just started training in September. Give him some time; he'll get back into shape.”
Of course, many fans found it ironic that Davis is facing fitness issues after the trade involving Doncic, who himself was traded by the Mavericks partly due to weight concerns.
A fan responded, “This is going to be the curse of Dallas trading Luka. Forever destined to have questionable dietary habits aesthetically, haha.”
There is immense pressure on the Mavericks; if Davis runs into problems early in the season, it would mark a huge turning point and, for many Mavericks fans, the final straw.
Last season, Davis averaged 24.7 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. Can he stay healthy and perform even better this season? Let's wait and see.
