On October 2nd Beijing time, Lin Wei's agency officially announced that he will participate in the NCAA for the new season, joining the University of Oregon. His agency confirmed that Lin Wei holds full NCAA eligibility and can play at any time this season. Previously, Lin Wei was seen training at the University of Oregon and later went hiking with his new teammates as part of team bonding.

At 22 years old, Lin Wei has been one of the most dominant scorers in the CBA since 2022. During the 2024-25 season with the Nanjing Tongxi team, he averaged 21.6 points, 5.3 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.4 steals over 36 games, shooting 37% from three-point range and 88% from the free-throw line. According to American media, Lin Wei possesses extensive experience, a strong competitive drive, excellent long-range shooting, and great ball control following his quick first-step drives.

Previously, reports indicated that Oregon's head coach Altman reached out to Lin Wei, hoping he would bring his talent to the University of Oregon, though Lin Wei had other options. He was selected 8th overall by the Texas Legends, the Dallas Mavericks’ G League affiliate, in the 2025 NBA Development League International Draft. Additionally, Australia's National Basketball League showed interest, especially the Sydney Kings and Melbourne United. However, American media analyzed that playing in the NCAA might be the best path for Lin Wei to continue improving himself and become stronger defensively.
