A historic encounter! First overall pick Flagg shakes hands with Jordan, having previously supported the legend as the GOAT.

On September 28 Beijing time, the Mavericks posted a photo capturing the 2025 top pick Flagg meeting Michael Jordan at the Ryder Cup, exchanging a handshake! The official caption read: "MJ shaking hands with Flagg, a historic Ryder Cup moment."

It’s worth mentioning that Flagg was recently asked about the GOAT rivalry between Jordan and LeBron, and he answered decisively. Flagg said: "Without a doubt, it’s Michael Jordan. To me, he is the 'Greatest of All Time' (GOAT). I’m not sure if it’s influenced by how I was raised, but that’s my answer."

Lakers star LeBron James also spoke about Flagg on a podcast. He said: "Personally, I believe Flagg is eager to become great. He can handle multiple roles on the court, both with the ball and off it. His jump shot will keep improving, and his athleticism is outstanding, especially his quick second jump."

Flagg also crossed paths with LeBron during a USA Basketball warm-up game: the young rookie participated in a scrimmage against the US team preparing for the Paris Olympics. However, this brief interaction did not seem to alter Flagg’s stance in the Jordan vs. LeBron GOAT debate.

Flagg is the youngest NBA draft number one pick since LeBron James was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers 22 years ago. Can he excel in the upcoming season? At least for now, he is the leading favorite for Rookie of the Year.
