Warriors celebrate Coach Kerr's 60th birthday with blessings! A tangible gift: promoting his 32-year-old son to assistant coach

On September 28th Beijing time, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr celebrated his 60th birthday, with the Warriors’ official account releasing a poster and captioning it: “Warriors Nation, join us in wishing Coach Kerr a happy birthday.”

The NBA’s official social media also posted a photo of Kerr holding a championship trophy and wrote: “As a player, he won five titles; as a coach, four titles. On Kerr’s 60th birthday, these are his most iconic championship moments.”

The Warriors also gave a concrete “gift” in action. Just two hours after the official social media wished Kerr a happy 60th birthday, they announced promotions within the basketball operations department. This included promoting Kerr’s 32-year-old son, Nicholas, to assistant coach of the Warriors.

Thirty-two-year-old Nicholas Kerr has been the head coach of the Santa Cruz Warriors (the Warriors’ G League affiliate) for the past two seasons. He joined the Warriors organization in 2018, having previously spent three seasons with the team working in player development and serving as a video coordinator.

Nicholas Kerr will join the Warriors’ experienced coaching staff under his father, Steve Kerr, who is about to begin his 12th season as the Warriors’ NBA head coach. The coaching staff includes well-known figures such as former NBA head coaches Stotts and Jerry Stackhouse, both of whom joined the Warriors coaching team before the 2024-25 season.

Additionally, the Warriors announced several other personnel changes within the basketball operations department. Notably, David Fatoki was promoted to Vice President of Basketball Development after four years as the general manager of the Santa Cruz Warriors; and Nikola Milojević, son of the late Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojević, has joined the team as a video coordinator and player development staff member.
