Brooklyn Nets official photos released! Zeng Fanbo responds on his second NBA attempt: Not everyone gets a second chance.

On September 24th Beijing time, Zeng Fanbo participated in the Nets media day event, and his official photos have been published. He was interviewed in both Chinese and English together with Drew Timme. The interview transcript is as follows —

Reporter: Aside from the team’s upcoming trip to Macau for a game, are you aware of how many Chinese players have previously played for the Nets? Did this factor affect your choice to join the team? Also, have you had any chance to communicate with the team owner Joe Tsai?

Zeng Fanbo: Honestly, this is my first time going to Macau, and having this opportunity feels very meaningful to me. Being part of this team and playing a game in China is very special. As a Chinese player, I know I need to work harder to break any stereotypes that might exist about Asian players.

Reporter: First of all, congratulations on officially signing with the Nets. You signed an Exhibit 10 contract this time, and if you want to earn a two-way contract, you’ll definitely need to put in more effort. Compared to your NBA attempt three years ago, how do you think your mindset, skills, and physical preparation have changed? Also, what are your short-term goals and expectations now that you’re back on the NBA stage?

Zeng Fanbo: Thank you very much. It’s been a long time since I’ve been in this environment. This year I’ve faced many challenges, including injuries and missing the entire summer training, plus I couldn’t participate in the Summer League or the national team. I hope to use this opportunity to improve myself and maintain good physical condition. Actually, not everyone gets a second chance, so I want to make the most of it.

Reporter: You just mentioned how precious this opportunity is. I think the competition on the Nets’ wing positions is very fierce. How well do you think your 3-and-D skill set fits into the Nets’ tactical system?

Zeng Fanbo: I believe every player on any team and position has their own strengths and weaknesses. What I need to do is to maximize my strengths and help the team as much as possible, fulfilling the tasks assigned to me by the coach.

Reporter: Welcome to New York. Two quick questions: First, what are you most looking forward to about the China games this year, and do you have any travel plans? Second, what differences have you noticed between NBA and CBA media formats and how do they make you feel?

Zeng Fanbo: First, I’m honored to be part of the Nets and to play in China’s China games. What I look forward to most is having the chance to play in front of my family, who along with my close friends will be coming to Macau to watch me play. For the second question, I think media definitely plays a role in supporting players. Both leagues are working in their own ways to better develop the overall experience for players.
