On December 17, Beijing time, the 76ers officially announced that Embiid will be suspended indefinitely due to a sinus fracture and will be re-evaluated in about a week, which means that he will miss at least a week of games.
He picked up an injury in Saturday's loss to the Pacers, his sixth game of the season, after missing a large number of games due to swollen left knee and has been officially out of the awards for the second year in a row. In these six games, Embiid averaged 20.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game, shooting 41.1% from the field and 16% from three-point range.
Before halftime in that game, Embiid was hit in the face by the opponent's forearm and elbow as he fought for a rebound with the Pacers' Mathurin. He was injured at the time due to a blow to the right side of his face, including the cheek and nose area. Subsequently, the 76ers officially confirmed that Embiid suffered a sinus fracture and will not return to the game.
The 76ers also recently lost rookie guard McCain, who is expected to be out indefinitely after surgery due to a torn meniscus.
U.S. media reported that Embiid has suffered multiple facial injuries, including a fractured eye socket caused by a collision with Siakam during the 2022 playoffs against the Raptors. Last season, Embiid revealed that he had Bell's palsy during a playoff first-round game against the Knicks.
Embiid, Maxey and George, the duo known as the "Philadelphia's new Big Three," have only played three games together due to injuries. The 76ers have a 7-16 record so far this season. According to the playoff probability data from the data website, the 76ers currently have only a 5.9% chance of making the playoffs, and only an 18.1% chance of making the playoffs
