The jerseys of James and his son have been sold at auction: the two pieces have sold for only $102,000

On December 6, Beijing time, according to The Athletic, the two jerseys of James and Bronny have been auctioned off, and the final sale price is only $102,000, which may be significantly lower than the outside world's expectations.

In May, Sotheby's auctioned off James' jersey for last year's Lakers midseason semifinals against the Pelicans for $120,000. That game was clearly far less meaningful than the jerseys James and Bronny wore for the first time this season.

With that in mind, and the fact that Bronny's NBA Summer League debut jersey sold separately for $38,400 in September (again through Sotheby's), the final sale price of the jersey worn by the father and son duo on their history night appears to be much lower than expected. There are a few possible reasons for this, though.

On October 22, local time, James and Bronny's father and son appeared briefly on the same stage before the end of the first half of the Lakers' regular season opener against the Timberwolves. Although it only lasted a few minutes, it was enough to make NBA history. Bronny didn't play in the second half of that game – a key detail as Sotheby's stated in the auction catalogue note that the jersey listed was what he wore in the second half. Sotheby's also pointed out that the label of the jersey reads "10/22 for the second half of the first game" by hand. So, these two jerseys were not what they wore when they played together that night. Bronny may have changed his shirt at half-time.

On top of that, Bronny has struggled to make an impact with the Lakers, which is to be expected for a second-round pick. Since the opener, Bronny has played just four games for the Lakers, playing a total of 13 minutes. He also played in two G-League games for the South Bay Lakers. Recently, he has not played due to a heel injury. So the initial hype and excitement of that special moment on October 22 has certainly faded.

Another potential factor is that more and more LeBron James jerseys are entering the market due to the NBA's partnership with Sotheby's, which also affects the transaction price to some extent.

The US media said that after all, this is an item from a unique historical event, and whether it is a good deal remains to be determined.
