On December 6, Beijing time, the NBA officially announced that three members of the Rockets would be fined. Udoka was fined $50,000, Ethan was fined $35,000 and Shin Kyung was fined $15,000. The three were fined a total of $100,000.
All three Rockets were penalized for an incident that occurred on the road against the Kings. The Rockets lost 111-120 to the Kings, and with 1:52 left in the game, Udoka was ejected along with Shin Kyung. After the game, Udoka publicly criticized the referee's omission.
The league said Udoka was fined $50,000 for "clashing with the match referee and using foul language, failing to leave the court in time after being sent off, and publicly criticizing the referee at a post-match press conference."
Shen Jing was fined 15,000 yuan for "using inappropriate language to the match referee".
As for Ethan, he was fined for the post-match incident. At that time, he was fined $35,000 for throwing a towel at a fan in the stands and verbally attacking him with inappropriate language. However, Sam Amick of The Athletic was surprised by the league's lack of mention of Ethan's attempt to enter the stands to confront the heckling fan, but was stopped by security personnel.
Amick wrote: "As for Ethan, I think it's strange that the league chose not to mention him running up the ramp and rushing at the fans before security stopped him. It's not just about throwing a towel and saying a few words. โ
According to previous reports, Udoka's annual salary this season is around $7 million, Eason is $3.7 million, and Shin Kyung is $5.42 million. Shin Kyung's new big contract will take effect from the start of next season. So far this season, the Rockets are 15-7 and temporarily ranked second in the West.
