Melton's season reimbursement is both bad news and an opportunity

I just talked about how the depth of the Warriors' roster is so good, but I didn't expect the bad news to come so quickly.

In the previous game against the Mavericks, Melton injured his knee and insisted on finishing the game at that time, but after the game, it was found out that he had a cruciate ligament sprain, so many people didn't think about the direction of season reimbursement. Unexpectedly, the final result came out, Melton needed to undergo cruciate ligament surgery, and the season was reimbursed.

Melton signed a one-year, 12.8 million full mid-range with the Warriors this summer, and the annual salary of 10 million proves Melton's strength, and the one-year contract also confirms Melton's own hidden danger, that is, he is not so healthy.

Melton is an offensive and defensive guard who has made a name for himself in the league as a consistent rotation player with both the Grizzlies and the 76ers. But he played only 38 games with the 76ers last season and spent most of his time struggling with a back injury, which is a real problem for basketball players.

This season with the Warriors, even if the season has just begun, Melton is a stop-and-go. After playing three games at the start of the season, he was out for five games due to injury before returning to play three games. Unexpectedly, these six games have become the swan song of Melton's Warriors career.

Melton came off the bench in the first four games and started the last two. And Melton also proved with his on-court performance that he is the best answer to the Warriors' starting No. 2 position. Not only does he defend well and is accurate at three-point range, but he also has the ability to hold the ball in one hand, and he can even play a few smaller.

There are many candidates for the Warriors' No. 2 position, in addition to Melton, there are also Pojer, Moody, and Payton Jr. But there is only one candidate who really has both offense and defense and no obvious weaknesses, so he has also become the Warriors' candidate to finish the lineup.

So far this season, Melton has played in six games for the Warriors, averaging 10.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game, shooting 37% from three-point range, ranking eighth in the league in defensive efficiency.

Melton's defensive prowess made a name for himself early in college, averaging 1.9 steals and one block per game, and ranking first in the division with a 4.0 steal percentage. In the Pac-12 division of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Melton made a mark with defense.

He faced Fultz and Ball in a week, the top pick and top pick in the class of 2017. As a result, the two had a total of 8 assists and 11 turnovers against Melton, of which the ball brother was forced to make 7 turnovers in the whole game.

The Warriors' No. 2 position is the one that needs the most 3D ability, with excellent leading and defensive ability, the ability to receive three-point shots, and preferably some ability to handle the ball. Moody's three-pointers are good and his size is not bad, but his ability to handle the ball is not good, and his defense is almost meaningless.

Payton Jr. is the Warriors' best defender, but he came on the court as a point that was let go by the opponent, and he played 4 5 on the offensive end. It's okay to play for a short time, but it's definitely not okay to let Payton Jr. become the starting No. 2.

Bojie is the same thing, the Warriors have given Pojay a lot of expectations, and he should have been the best person to start. But this season, Boger's three-point shooting percentage is only 19 percent, which is not even as good as Payton Jr. Although his defense has improved, he will still have leaky performances and is very inconsistent.

So without Melton, for the Warriors, it is equivalent to the bucket pulling out a plank, and the remaining options that can be replenished are shorter than the original plank. So now the Warriors' roster depth is still excellent, but the No. 2 position is going to give Kerr a headache for a while.

Melton's season reimbursement has become a fact, and to the bitter end, it happened at the beginning of the season. If Melton is reimbursed for the season after the trade deadline, the Warriors won't have a place to cry. Now, at least, the Warriors have a lot of room to maneuver.

Giving Melton a one-year contract is a defense against his glass attributes, which the Warriors are much smarter than the team that gave Vincent a three-year contract. Now Melton's role in the Warriors has changed from a starting No. 2 position with both offense and defense to a 12.8 million trade match.

If the Warriors were traded zero for a whole before, the Warriors may still have doubts, but now Melton's injury has undoubtedly dispelled the concerns of the Warriors management. The Warriors' record this season is so good, they must want to make some achievements, and losing such a middle-class contract in vain is obviously not the Warriors' style.

Using Melton's expiring contract to add positive assets and exchange for some players who are suitable for the Warriors is the focus of the Warriors' management in the future. Players like Brother Alphabet, just look at the rumors and have fun.

Objects to really keep an eye on, such as the Nets' "Big Three" of trading Schroder, Cameron Johnson and Finney Smith. Of course, if the Timberwolves are willing to let go, Divin, who has not been going well in Minnesota this season, can do it, after all, he is an old acquaintance.

Without Melton, it would certainly not hurt the Warriors, but it would certainly hurt.
