Confusion gripped the game and the only score for the Yankees to complete a series sweep against the Royals

Pablo Reyes had no idea where to run for a few seconds. In an 8-0 tie, he slid between third base and home plate before making a sharp stop, first turning to go back to third base. After a moment of hesitation, he finally decided to rush to home plate.

After a few seconds of confusion, Reyes slid headfirst across home plate – catcher Freddy Fermin missed the pass and had no time to touch it. The Yankees took the lead and finished the series with a 1-0 win at the Kansas City Royals today.

It wasn't an easy and unexpected score: Paul Goldschmidt hit a powerful flat fly ball past leaping first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino's glove when he was on first and second base. The ball rolled to the junction of the infield dirt and outfield turf, and Pasquantino picked up the ball and passed it to pitcher Lucas Erceg, who ran to first base but not Goldschmidt. When Ersegg turned to look at the runners, he found Reyes trapped in the "three-way zone" and couldn't catch him.

Reyes' move to third base sent Ursegg a few steps forward, not knowing where to go. By this time, Reyes had sprinted along the baseline, causing Ursegg to miss the pass, and Reyes safely slid back to home plate to score the only point of the game.

That's enough to help the Yankees win. Will Warren shook off his starting slump in the first two games, making 5.2 innings without conceding a point. After defusing the crisis in the second inning, only two Royals hitters were allowed to hit base, and the Yankees pitched the group to 17 RBIs and 0 hits in the three-game series.

New York has won 10 of its last 11 games against the Royals, and this season's 6-0 sweep has set a record of 10 wins against the same team in a single season.
