Legendary right-handed right-hand thrower Weyland was put on the injury list by the San Francisco Giants due to chest muscle discomfort

Giants head coach Bob Melvin announced on Wednesday that right-hand pitcher Justin Verlander will be on the injury list due to chest muscle discomfort.

The injury affected Wieland's possession and speed of the game against the Athletics on Sunday. The 42-year-old threw a season-high five saves in four innings and dropped his speedball velocity to an average of 91.3mph (compared to a season average of 94.2mph). Wieland revealed after the game that the medical team were aware of the injury, but declined to elaborate on the condition.

Despite a 4.33 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 52 innings, Wieland has yet to win in his first 10 starts for the Giants this season.
