For the first time since the establishment of the East Asian Basketball Super League, three Japanese teams have participated in the same season

The East Asian Basketball Super League announced on the 20th that Utsunomiya Emperors, Ryukyu Golden Kings and Tokyo Denki will represent the Japanese Professional Basketball B League (B.LEAGUE) in the 2025-26 season of the Eastern Super League, which will be the first time that three Japanese teams will participate in the same season since the establishment of the Eastern Super League.

Earlier this month, the Eastern Super League announced that the new "2025 Emperor's Cup Champion" will qualify for next season's Eastern Super League in order to raise the level of competition and strengthen competitiveness. The Ryukyu Golden Kings won the Emperor's Cup in March by defeating Tokyo Denki 60-49 to qualify for the Eastern Super League with Utsunomiya Emperors through the original "Advance Championship Match". As a result, the quota for the Emperor's Cup was won by Tokyo Dengeki, the runner-up in the final, and this participation will also be the first time that Tokyo Dengeki has stepped on the stage of the Eastern Super League.

Utsunomiya Kings will return to the Super League for the first time since the 2023 Eastern Super League Champions Week. They also participated in the Eastern Super League back in 2019 in the "Extraordinary 12" tournament, when the league did not yet adopt the current home-and-away system. Utsunomiya has a strong record in the B League this season, becoming the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference with 48 wins and 12 defeats. In the playoffs, they swept the Mikawa Seahorses by an average of 13 points per game, and then defeated the Chiba Jets led by 2023–24 MVP Yuki Tomigashi in the semifinals to advance to the championship game.

The Ryukyu Golden Kings defeated Sanyuan New Phoenix in three consecutive semi-finals to secure qualification for the 2025–26 Eastern Super League. As a powerhouse in Japanese basketball in the past five years, Ryukyu has reached the B League championship for the fourth consecutive year and will strive for the second B League championship in the past three seasons, the last time being in 2023.

Ryukyu made their debut in the 2023–24 season, finishing the group stage with 3 wins and 3 losses. In the coming year, he made significant progress, with 5 wins and 1 defeat to advance to the top 4 of the Macau Eastern Super League, and finally finished 4th. Long before the adoption of the home-and-away system in the Eastern Super League, Ryukyu participated in almost all of the Eastern Super League competitions, including the "Super 8" in 2017, the "Extraordinary 12" in 2018 and 2019, and the Eastern Super League Champions Week in 2023.
