Hyde stepped down as head coach of the Orioles, and Tony Mansolino, the head coach of third base

Brandon Hyde's tenure as head coach of the Orioles came to an end.

On Saturday, the Baltimore Orioles announced the firing of 51-year-old Hyde and Tim Cossins, the head of the Athletics Coordinator/Catcher coach. Third base coach Tony Mansolino will serve as interim head coach. The decision came less than 14 hours after the Orioles lost 4-3 at home to the Nationals (with a record falling to 15-28), and the players were informed of the news through a meeting with general manager Mike Elias when they arrived at the stadium on Saturday morning.

"As the head of baseball, the responsibility for the team's sluggish start to the season ultimately lies with me," Elias said in a statement, "and change is hard, but it must be done for the future." Thanks to Brandon's dedication over the years, he led the team back to the playoffs and won the American League East Conference. His contribution will be remembered and I wish him all the best with his family. "

Hyde took over the Orioles in December 2018 (a month after Elias became general manager) and shared the responsibility of rebuilding. The team had a record of 131 wins and 253 losses in the first three years (.341 win rate), and in 2022 it saw the light of day with 83 wins and 79 defeats. In 2023, the Orioles won the best 101-61 in the American League and won the division championship for the first time since 2014, and Hyde was named the American League Coach of the Year. In 2024, the team won the wild card again with 91 wins and 71 losses, but won 0 and lost 5 in the playoffs in the past two years.

Before the 2025 season, the Orioles were expected to go further in the playoffs, but they fell to the league's fourth-worst record (15-28), with a winning percentage falling below 50 to 13 games, the lowest since 52-110 in 2021. Hyde's 421-492 losses (.461 win percentage) in six years at the helm of the Orioles are the fourth-highest number of wins in franchise history, behind Earl Weaver (1,480 wins), Buck Showalter (669 wins) and Paul Richards (517 wins).

New owner David Rubenstein (who took over the team in March 2024) acknowledged Hyde's contributions in a statement: "His deep baseball acumen and leadership bring glory to Baltimore. But change is a necessity, and we thank him for his dedication and wish him all the best for the future. "

Cousins left at the same time as Hyde's descendant, and Elias thanked him for his many years of work. Mansolino has been the Orioles' third base coach since 2021 and previously served as head coach of 1A to 3A teams in the Indian system. Bench coach Robinson Chavez stays on, minor league coach Buck Britton alternates third base/infield coach, and assistant pitcher coach Mitch Plassmeyer acts as bullpen coach.

Hyde became the third head coach to be sacked this season (the first two being the Buccaneers' Derek Shelton and Rocky's Bud Black) and the first Orioles to be sacked in the middle of the season since Dave Trembley in 2010. At Camden Stadium at this moment, the cycle of reconstruction has started again.
