Shohei Ohtani tied for the major league home run after a 50/50 bobblehead night double

On Shohei Ohtani's bobblehead night, rival pitchers need to be extra vigilant.

The Dodgers superstar led the Athletics 19-2 thrashing on Thursday night with a double-shot 6-point performance, coinciding with the team's handing out bobbleheads to commemorate its unprecedented "50 Booms and 50 Thieves" season. Ohtani currently ties for the top spot in the major league home run with 15 hits and 10 thieves (tied with the Yankees Aaron Judge and the Phillies Kyle Schwarber) and is on his way to a season of 55 hits and 36 thieves. That's more than his performance in the same period last year (12 hits and 10 steals in the first 44 games).

Ohtani scored double hits in a single game for the first time this season, tying Judge and Schwaber in home run tally. Notably, his last three bobblehead nights have been hitting: the bobblehead event that began last August with the theme of the dog "Decoy", when he hit a home run from Corbin Burnes of the Orioles; On April 3 of this year, the bobblehead night of his third unanimous MVP, he helped the Dodgers to an eight-game winning streak with a goodbye spring. The two remaining Otani bobblehead events of the season are against the Redskins on August 27 and the Rockies on September 10 โ€“ and based on recent performances, the "Mr. Big Spectacle" will continue his magic.

Ohtani scored a season-high six points in the second inning, starting with a second-inning Dalton Rushing (first in his major league debut) to score on a high-flying sacrifice. In the third inning, he hit a three-pointer and helped the Dodgers score seven points in a single inning. Two more points were added in the fourth inning, expanding the difference to 13 points.

The Dodgers' five hits in a single game set a season-high (surpassing the four hits in the 9-3 win over the Athletics the day before). With the score disparity, coach Dave Roberts replaced Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts and Andy Pages after three innings. Ohtani's 112mph muzzle velocity twin shots were the perfect footnote for this crazy night.
