The Dodgers made roster changes ahead of Wednesday night's game against the Athletics: promoting rookie catcher Dalton Rushing to the major leagues and appointing veteran catcher Austin Barnes.
According to the MLB Pipeline list, the 24-year-old Rahim is the 15th rookie in the league and tops the catcher list. Played in 31 games for triple-A Oklahoma City this season, handing over a career-best batting average/0.424 batting percentage/0.514 batting average, and hitting five home runs.
Racine's addition will strengthen the Dodgers' roster flexibility. Despite playing the catcher position, he has started first base eight times this season. Since being promoted to Triple A in August last year, the left field has been used as the main defensive area (27 starts).
In 2024, Racine won Dodgers Farm's Player of the Year with a 0.896 attack index and 26 hits (during his time with 2A Tulsa and 3A Oklahoma City). The second-round rookie from the 2022 Draft (University of Louisville) will add firepower to the current No. 1 National League Attack Index (0.801) and No. 2 in the league.
The move comes amid a setback in the depth of the Dodgers' outfield, with injuries to Tommy Edman and Teoscar Hernández putting the team to the test.
Catcher Will Smith has been in hot form this season, opening the season with top-tier numbers of 0.330/0.429/0.486 in the opening 34 games. Barnes, who was designated for the transfer, has a batting average of just 0.214 in 13 games in his 11th season with the Dodgers.
