Cabrera is on the injury list with an ankle fracture and the Yankees activate Lemethe

The day after the ambulance pulled off T-Mobile Field, Yankee tool man Oswaldo Cabrera was placed on the 10-day injury list on Tuesday with a fractured left ankle. Infielder DJ LeMahieu finishes his rehabilitation mission and reactivates it through the corresponding roster adjustment.

Cabrera was injured on the run-up in Monday's 11-5 win over the Mariners in nine innings. To avoid catcher Cal Raleigh, he rounded the outside of home plate and scored a point but suffered a twisted fracture of his left ankle due to a stoppage. At one point, the medical vehicle entered the scene but turned back halfway, and eventually the ambulance took Cabrera to the hospital.

"It's a reminder that baseball is just a game," Yankees coach Aaron Boone said Monday night, "and when such a good teammate befalls a misfortune, the win or defeat suddenly becomes meaningless." "

Cabrera had the most career appearances in his fourth season in the major leagues, starting 30 third-base games in 41 games, batting .243 and 630 OPS.34 games, and contributing four second-run hits, one hit and 11 hits. In a game every week, he hit 4 hits, 1 hit, 1 hit, and 1 reserve.

LeMetheau's activation on Tuesday was as expected, with Boone revealing on Monday that he will be wearing a jersey and is scheduled to make his season debut on Wednesday (possibly at second base). But with Cabrera out injured, the four-time Golden Glove winner could need to fill the void at third base.

Lemetheau's comeback ends a long journey of recovery and continues his recent injury-ridden chapter:

  • In 2023: Fractured his right foot at the end of spring training due to hitting the ball, and made his season debut as late as May 28; Early reimbursement at the end of the quarter for right hip impingement
  • In 2024: The offseason was extended in an effort to recover, but he only played one game in the spring training with a sprained left calf on March 1

Lematheeu has been on the 2A Somerset side of the 3A Scranton/Wilkes-Barry for nine rehab games since April 22, during which he received what Boone calls a "prophylactic" hip cortisone injection. During the rehabilitation period, the batters were 0.444/0.500/0.593, and the 3A level was 11 hits, 5 hits and 1 save.

Medical Dynamics:
Cabrera's specific injury assessment has not yet been released. Lemetheau's defensive position will be determined by Wednesday's pre-game form, with only 44 second-base starters in his career since 2022.
