The Houston Astros put starting pitcher Hayden Wesneski on the 15-day injury list today after the right pitcher reported right elbow soreness to the team on Thursday.
Wesneski's last appearance was in a 4-3 defeat against the Brewers on Tuesday, where he lost four points in the first game but then settled six of the seven hitters. Coach Joe Espada said Wesneski was still undergoing a team medical examination on Friday afternoon and could not provide a timetable for his return.
With the Astros embarking on a 17-day streak of non-stop schedules, Espada confirmed that he would maintain a six-man rotation but did not reveal a sixth starter.
Wesneski started six games from his hometown side Astros this season, with a 1-3 record, a 4.50 ERA and 29 strikeouts and just six guarantees from 32 innings. He joined the Astros in the offseason in a trade involving outfielder Kyle Tucker in a trade to the Cubs.
