"Dear Detroit... Let's do it again."

Tarik Skubal is deeply in love with Detroit. On the eve of the 2024 American League Young Award winner heading to the opening game of the new season, the Tigers ace pitcher has made no secret of his affection for the city.

Skubal, who will start for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday, sent a love letter to the city he calls home on social media Wednesday night.

"Detroit is a city of sports, and it's an underrated city," Scobar wrote. "You can't really understand this place and its people unless you've lived here. "

Skubal had the opportunity to experience this firsthand.

The California-born and Arizona raised pitcher was a ninth-round pick drafted by the Tigers from Seattle University in 2018. Despite growing up in the West, Schubal insists he has a lot in common with Motor City.

"As I got to know the city better, it became clear that Detroit had experienced the adversity it deserved," Scubar wrote.

So did himself. The left pitcher graduated from high school with an offer from only one NCAA Division I school, underwent Tommy John surgery in college and left elbow flexor tendon surgery during the major leagues, and missed most of the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

But just like Detroit's recent resurgence, Scubar has also made a strong comeback. He completely dominated the game in 2024, not only winning the American League Triple Crown and Cy Young Award, but also leading the Tigers to the American League Division Series against the Guardians.

Ahead of Thursday's Dodgers Stadium game, Scubal and his Tigers will try to continue that success. To that end, Scubal ignited his fan base in a special way.

"So, whatever you want to say about us... Say anything is OK in Detroit," Skubal wrote. "We still have unfinished business, so... Let's do it again. "
