UFC legend Velázquez has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for not pleading guilty to charges of intentional murder in 2022

UFC legend Kane Velázquez was sentenced to five years in prison on Monday for not pleading guilty to charges of intentional murder in 2022. The 42-year-old is a two-time UFC (Ultimate Fighting Champion) heavyweight champion and is known as one of the greatest fighters in UFC history.

Ahead of the verdict, Velázquez admitted that he was handling it incorrectly.

However, Velázquez was arrested in California three years ago and charged with 10 charges, including "murder with intent," and prosecutors initially sought a 30-year prison sentence for the two-time heavyweight champion, before being released from prison in November 2022 and has been under house arrest ever since. And yesterday's five-year prison sentence, handed down at the Santa Clara County Department of Justice in San Jose, ended a case that had been delayed by multiple court extensions.

Before being sentenced, Velázquez pleaded guilty and said he was responsible for his actions. "We can't take the law into our own hands, and I'm not handling this the right way," he said.

According to foreign media reports, Kane may have shot the other party in order to avenge his relatives. The Denver Post reported that a man named Gullart had molested and lascivious acts against Kane's then-4-year-old at his mother's daycare center. An enraged Kane shot Gurart at gunpoint on the afternoon of Feb. 28, 2022, during an 11-mile car chase, but instead of hitting the target, he hit Gurart's stepfather, Bender, in the arm. Kane was arrested afterwards.
