The Orioles signed veteran starting pitcher Kyle Gibson to a one-year contract worth $5.25 million

The Baltimore Orioles announced Friday that they have signed right-hand pitcher Kyle Gibson to a one-year major league contract for the 2025 season. According to MLB reporter Jake Rill, the contract has a base salary of $5.25 million and a performance bonus of up to $1.525 million.

Gibson, 37, played for the Cardinals in St. Louis last season, winning eight and losing eight of his 30 starts, scoring 4.24 (conceding 80 points in 169.2 innings) and diching out 151 strikeouts. His 20.9% strikeout rate is the best since 2018 (22.7%), and he has made six innings in 17 starts, becoming one of seven active pitchers with 30+ starts for four consecutive seasons (including Charlie Morton).

During his time with the Orioles in 2023, Gibson started 15-9 in 33 games, and had a 4.73 ERA (101 points conceded in 192 innings), tied for first in the American League for starts, third in wins and sixth in pitched innings. Not only did he start the opening game, but he was also nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award, a symbol of sportsmanship and community contribution, after the 2022 Phillies in Philadelphia.

Greenfield, Indiana, a right-hand shooter who was drafted by the Minnesota Twins with the 22nd pick in the first round from the University of Missouri in 2009, was named to the Future Stars Game in 2011 and was named to the All-Star Game for the first time in 2021. In his career, he has played 112-108 in 330 games (324 starts) with a 4.52 ERA percentage.

With the team's current 40-man roster full, in order to free up space for the 40-man roster, the Orioles put Kyle Bradish, who has undergone ulnar collateral ligament surgery on his right elbow, on the 60-day injury list.
