2025 Women's World Curling Championships: South Korea qualify for the semi-finals in the last six play-offs

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government Team, the national representative of the Korean women's curling team, confirmed to enter the top 6 play-offs (PO) at the World Championship held at home stadium. On the 20th local time, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government team composed of Kim Eun-ji, Kim Min-ji, Kim so-ji, Xue Ye-eun, Xue Ye-ji and others defeated Lithuania 10-4 in a match in the 10th round of the qualifiers for the sixth day of the 2025 LGT World Women's Curling Championship held at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Ice Rink.

On the 20th, during the match between the South Korean team and the Swedish team at the 2025 World Women's Curling Championship, Kim Eun-ji, the captain of the South Korean team, gave instructions to his teammates.

At this point, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government team, which has 8 wins and 2 losses in the qualifiers, will lock up their trip to the top 6 play-offs even if they lose all the remaining two games. Currently, Gyeonggi Provincial Government is tied for second place in the qualifiers with Canada and Sweden after Switzerland, which has 9 wins and 1 loss.

According to the rules, after the World Championship qualifiers, the top two teams will directly enter the semi-finals, and the third and sixth, fourth and fifth places will compete in the semi-finals play-offs to compete for the remaining two semi-final tickets.

On the 20th, in the match between South Korea and Sweden at the 2025 World Women's Curling Championship, Sweden's core Hasselbury was instructing his teammates after throwing the ball.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government will play the 11th and 12th matches of the qualifiers against Italy and the United States at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. local time on the 21st, respectively, in an effort to directly enter the semifinals.

This is the second women's world curling championship to be held in South Korea in 16 years since the 2009 World Championships in Gangneung. Based on the results of this year's and last year's World Championships, the quota places for the 2026 Winter Olympics will be allocated.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government team, which won the bronze medal last year, is provisionally ranked fourth in the Olympic rankings, including the host country, Italy. The Gyeonggi Provincial Agency predicts that as long as they avoid being at the bottom of the rankings at this tournament, they will ensure a straight route to the Olympic finals. But not only did they secure their right to participate in the Olympics, but the Gyeonggi Provincial Agency team also set a goal of winning the gold medal at the World Championships for the first time in the history of Korean curling.
