The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) pointed out that Chinese Taipei's most successful event in the Olympic Games is weightlifting, which has accumulated a total of 43 Olympic medals so far, of which 11 have been contributed to weightlifting, ranking the highest among all events. Chinese Taipei's first weightlifting medal dates back to the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, when weightlifting was limited to men, Tsai Wenyi won the bronze medal in the men's weightlifting 60 kg class, with a snatch of 125 kg and a clean and jerk of 147.5 kg, with a total score of 272.5 kg, and is currently the only male athlete in Chinese Taipei to have an Olympic weightlifting medal.
