In less than a year, the Baltimore Orioles have reached a long-term extension agreement with a core player for the third time.
Today, the Orioles officially announced a five-year contract extension with right-handed pitcher Kyle Bradish, covering the 2027 through 2031 seasons. According to multiple sources, the total value of the deal is as high as $90 million.
"We are incredibly excited for Kyle Bradish and his family," said Orioles manager Craig Albernaz. "He deserves this, and he earned it through his own hard work. This is a perfect fit for both him and the team. We are thrilled for KB, and he is worthy of all of this. We are glad he'll be here for a long time, and I know he's happy about it too. We are happy for him, and it's fantastic."
Bradish thus joins catcher Samuel Basallo (8 years, $67 million) and fellow right-hander Shane Baz (5 years, $68 million) as players who have reached extension agreements with the Orioles in the past year. Basallo signed his contract last August, while Baz put pen to paper this March.
Moreover, Bradish has surpassed the record set by Baz less than four months ago, becoming the highest-paid pitcher in Orioles history. The 29-year-old right-hander has officially broken the team's salary ceiling for pitcher contracts.
Since the consortium led by private equity billionaire David Rubenstein completed its acquisition of the Orioles in March 2024, the team has expressed a willingness to invest more money than before. This has proven to be true, as four of the seven largest contracts in team history have been signed since last August.

"Keeping a player of Kyle's caliber in the Orioles lineup is a key part of our long-term vision," Rubenstein said in a statement. "We appreciate Kyle's commitment to the team and to Baltimore, as well as the dedication of Mike Elias and the entire baseball operations department in this process."
Bradish was selected by the Angels in the fourth round of the 2018 draft and was acquired by the Orioles in December 2019 in the Dylan Bundy trade. At that time, he was just a promising pitcher in the minor leagues. Since then, Bradish has grown into one of the top starting pitchers in the league. When healthy, the pitcher from Peoria, Arizona, has made 86 starts for the Orioles over the past five seasons, with a steady ERA of 3.50.
"I'm genuinely happy for him," said Orioles left-handed pitcher Trevor Rogers. "Considering he went through Tommy John surgery and missed a full year. Now he's set for life, which is the most important thing in this business. He'll be wearing this uniform for a long, long time, and that's fantastic. This is what everyone plays for, and he achieved it. This contract went to the right person."
Bradish's breakout season was in 2023, when he finished fourth in the American League Cy Young Award voting. He posted a 2.83 ERA over 30 starts and started Game 1 of the AL Division Series against the Rangers. Although he pitched 4.2 innings allowing just two runs, the team lost 0-3. In the 2024-2025 seasons, Bradish made only 14 starts due to Tommy John surgery in June 2024, but even so, his combined ERA over those two seasons was a low 2.65. Entering this season, Bradish has a 3.61 ERA over 19 starts. Recently, he has been in excellent form, with a 2.12 ERA over his last five starts before the All-Star break. In his last outing on July 11 at Camden Yards against the Royals, he carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, ultimately allowing just one run over 6.2 innings, leading the team to a 6-1 victory.
"Since Kyle joined us as a minor league player in 2019, we have believed in him," Elias said in a statement. "With the support of our entire player development team, he has worked hard and grown into one of the best starting pitchers in the league. He is a role model for our team and community, and we are thrilled that he and his family will be here for a long time. This extension reflects the ongoing commitment of the ownership group led by David Rubenstein to build and maintain a team that fans and Baltimore can be proud of."
The Orioles plan to hold an official signing press conference for Bradish and Elias next Saturday at Camden Yards.
