Major League Baseball has announced that the 2027 season will begin with a standalone opening game, which will be streamed live on Netflix that evening. The two teams participating have yet to be determined.

The following day, all other teams will begin their seasons, with the opening day matchups as follows: Cleveland Guardians vs. Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals vs. Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox vs. Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers vs. Houston Astros, Minnesota Twins vs. Kansas City Royals, Atlanta Braves vs. Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets vs. Miami Marlins, Los Angeles Angels vs. Milwaukee Brewers, Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics vs. Pittsburgh Pirates, Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies vs. San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox vs. Seattle Mariners, Baltimore Orioles vs. Tampa Bay Rays, and Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals.

Looking back at the labor dispute in 2022, the league and the players' union did not reach a new agreement until March 10, pushing the originally scheduled Opening Day on March 31 back to April 7. Although there are no overseas games planned next year, the season's timely start will likely still depend on successfully completing the final round of negotiations.

Additionally, Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs, will host the All-Star Game on July 13. According to current plans, the regular season is expected to conclude on September 26.
