The New York Yankees are off today and will begin a three-game homestand against the Cleveland Guardians at Yankee Stadium tomorrow. In the meantime, second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. visited Jimmy Fallon's "The Tonight Show" at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan.
Chisholm, ever witty and charming, chatted with Fallon about a variety of subjects. Fallon first asked about the amusing incident on May 15 when Chisholm, facing his former team the Mets, wore Giancarlo Stanton's pants and immediately broke out of a slump. Chisholm recalled the conversation with Stanton: "I asked him, 'Let me wear your pants today—I can't find the pair I wanted. It was really a last-minute decision.'"
The conversation then shifted to Chisholm's status as one of the few MLB players signed with the Jordan brand. He shared a childhood memory from his hometown in the Bahamas, where he attended a celebrity softball game and interacted with basketball legend Michael Jordan. Little Chisholm tried to approach Jordan for an autograph, but Jordan inspired him with a line he has never forgotten. "Kid, work hard so that one day I'll want your autograph," Jordan told him.
To wrap up the show, Chisholm talked about watching his grandmother play softball in the Bahamas as a child and introduced his own Jazz Chisholm Jr. Foundation. He explained that the foundation's mission is to give back to children in similar situations to his own upbringing. Recalling how many people went out of their way to help him during his youth, he hopes to pass on that kindness through the foundation.
