Kai-Wei Teng pitches 21 balls over two innings without allowing a run, Houston Astros still miss out on three consecutive wins.

In today's concluding match of the three-game home series against the Colorado Rockies, the Houston Astros saw right-handed pitcher Kai-Wei Teng take the mound in the top of the eighth inning. Over two innings, he threw just 21 pitches. While he gave up one hit and did not retire all six batters faced, he still prevented any runs from scoring. Sadly, the Astros fell 2-3 in the end, failing to secure a third straight win and a series sweep, leaving Teng with a no-decision outcome.

Despite a low pitch count, Kai-Wei Teng utilized five different types of pitches: a four-seam fastball, a cutter, a curveball, a changeup, and a sinker. His fastball velocity reached between 94 and 96 miles per hour.

Against the first batter, Teng's initial pitch was an 84-mile cutter that missed the strike zone, but Ezequiel Tovar hit it into an infield fly ball for an out. Then, facing Troy Johnson, he threw a fastball, a curveball, and a changeup in sequence, reaching a count of two strikes and no balls, forcing Johnson to ground out to second base. In the third matchup against Kyle Karros, after consecutive cutters for strikes, a fastball ended up in the heart of the plate; fortunately, it still resulted in a ground ball to second base for an out.

Continuing in the top of the ninth inning, Teng used a cutter to induce a ground ball from Brenton Doyle, fielding it himself for the first out. Another cutter led Colorado Rockies leadoff hitter Edouard Julien to ground out to second base. Unfortunately, with a commanding 2-0 count advantage, Tyler Freeman battled through to the sixth pitch; a fastball thrown right down the middle was hit, and although shortstop Nick Allen made a valiant effort to stop it, it still became a hit. Thankfully, a changeup directed TJ Rumfield to hit a line drive straight into the glove of second baseman Jose Altuve, ending Teng's pitching in the ninth.

After the game, Kai-Wei Teng's ERA dropped from 2.79 to 2.31, and his WHIP decreased from 0.931 to 0.857. Cumulatively, in 8 relief appearances covering 11.2 innings, he has allowed 6 hits (including 2 home runs), given up 3 runs, recorded 1 win and 1 hold, and delivered 11 strikeouts with 4 walks.
