Kai-Wei Teng earns his first career relief success, pitching 1.1 innings with 2 strikeouts to help Astros end 8-game losing streak.

Houston Astros pitcher Kai-Wei Teng played a crucial role in today's home game against the Colorado Rockies. He entered in the seventh inning with the team leading, pitched 1.1 innings in relief allowing only one run and striking out two batters, ultimately helping the Astros narrowly defeat the Rockies 7-6. This not only marked his first career relief success in the major leagues but also helped the Astros end their recent eight-game losing streak.

Astros starter Colton Gordon performed poorly, pitching only 3.2 innings, allowing 8 hits and 4 runs before exiting. When the game entered the seventh inning with the Astros leading 7-5, they decided to bring in Kai-Wei Teng for relief. He immediately demonstrated his dominance, first striking out Rockies' strong hitter Hunter Goodman with an 85.4 mph slider, then making Willi Castro swing and miss on a 90 mph changeup for another strikeout, and finally forcing T.J. Rumfield to ground out, completing a clean three-up-three-down inning.

Teng continued pitching in the eighth inning. Although he encountered turbulence and issued two walks, leaving a situation with one out and runners on first and second before exiting, reliever Bryan King, who took over, allowed a hit resulting in one run charged to Teng, but successfully stopped further damage. Overall, Teng pitched 1.1 innings in relief using 30 pitches (19 strikes), allowed no hits, gave up one run, and his ERA slightly increased to 2.79.

The Rockies started aggressively, taking a 3-0 lead thanks to Goodman's solo home run and Jake McCarthy's triple. The Astros broke the shutout in the second inning with Christian Walker's solo shot. In the third inning, capitalizing on two errors by the Rockies in a single inning, combined with four hits and one walk from the lineup, they poured in six runs in a big inning, reversing the score to 7-3.

Although the Rockies later chased closely with Goodman's two home runs in the game and Jordan Beck's long hit, the Astros bullpen ultimately held the pressure. In the ninth inning, Enyel De Los Santos, in a tense situation with two outs and runners on first and third, sealed the opponent with a strikeout to end the game, preserving this hard-earned victory.

In this game, Teng's fastest pitch reached 95.6 mph, generating five swings and misses overall. Since the start of the season, he has shown increasingly steady performance in the Astros bullpen. Except for his first game where he used more pitches, his pitch counts in recent six appearances have been effectively streamlined, and he has been deployed multiple times in critical moments. U.S. media recently praised Teng as "the only bright spot in the Astros bullpen." With his first career relief success achieved, he has clearly become a member of the Astros' winning group in the relief roster.
